High tide alert issued for the Pacific coast
The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE – National Emergency Commission) has declared a "green" alert for the Pacific coastal areas due to rising tide.
According to the CNE report the tides are expected to reach 3.5 metres or more, the highest in the last five years.
It is believed that the rising tide could cause flooding in some beaches along the Pacific coast, with the tallest waves expected on Tuesday afternoon.
Many Ticos are taking advantage of the last week of vacation before back to school. Authorities are asking bathers to avoid the waters during the high tides to avoid accidents.
Main areas of concern are Caldera, Isla de Damas, Cuajiniquil, Sámara in Guanacaste, and Parrita.
