Canada tied Costa Rica 2-2 Friday night and got the top spot in its group at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The draw assured Canada seven points in Group “A”. The Canadians beat Jamaica and El Salvador in their first two games and advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament (starting July 18).
Costa Rica, which finished with 1 victory, 1 loss and 1 draw, advanced to the knockout stage as group runner-up after Jamaica beat El Salvador 1 – 0 on Friday.
As usual, all Costa Rica was in front of their TVs Friday night, and on Saturday the game was mentioned in each and every conversation. Soccer (football) is undoubtedly number one sport in Costa Rica.
